I attended my first Maker Faire in San Mateo on May 18-19, 2013. It is an amazing show-and-tell of art, technology, science, music, and geek culture, attended by over 100,000 people. I got to play with 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC routers, wood lathes, and racing drones, all of which I would add to my shop in the coming years.
I also spent time with many of the Makers I had been following online, including Jimmy DiResta, Matt Richardson, Lenore Edman and Windell Oskay Simon Monk, Nick Poole, Matthew Beckler & Adam Wolf, Mark Demers, Cheryl Hrynkiw, and Massimo Banzi.
RadioShack also had a “learn-to-solder” tent where visitors made Makey pins with eyes that cycled through a rainbow of colors.
